• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Allyssa Painter -- Large variety : This is a nice coloring book. I like how there's a bit of variety in the pictures, with some being simple and others being more detailed. I especially love how the pictures are each labeled so if a child comes across an animal they do not recognize, an adult can read it and tell them what the animal is. There's a wide variety of animals in here, which is nice, especially for the weird kids whose favorite animals are things like tarantulas or the platypus. One improvement I would like it a table of contents. The pages are already numbered, so it'd be relatively easy to add, but would be a big help for parents/teachers who are trying to teach a child a specific animal or who have a child who's looking for a specific thing to color. Overall, I really like this coloring book. It even had a few animals I hadn't heard of, so I'm learning too. Can't wait to see which animals become my son's favorites. My daughter (a preschooler) had some trouble with a couple of the pictures. She likes to color in the lines, so she was a little frustrated, even as a toddler she was very careful about not straying out of the lines. But I liked the more simple illustrations for her as opposed to many of the preschool activity books that have less coloring and more educational pages. I like simple, and this checks that box. It’s a pretty comprehensive compilation of animals and I like that it covers fish, birds, insects, pets, wildlife, and exotics. I do think that many of the drawings would be a little above toddler grade, but would be good for slightly older children. Also many of the animals would need to be colored with color pencils, not crayons, due to the details and small areas. The certificate at the end is a great addition! It includes not only common animals that you typically find in animal coloring books for kids like pets, farm animals, and well-known wild animals, but also some lesser-known animals like pufferfish and Tasmanian devils. The names of the animals are written clearly at the top of each page, which promotes children’s literacy, and the pictures of the animals are, as the title declares, quite cute.
